Berlin GAA Committee Statement

Berlin GAA puts its unwavering support behind camogie players who have courageously taken a stand against being compelled to wear skorts.

Athletes should never be made to wear clothing that makes them feel uncomfortable or impacts their performance. The fact that players are required to make a stand on what can be seen as some of the biggest days in the club and intercounty calendar, highlights the urgency for meaningful change.

The core values of camogie must not be compromised by outdated policies that ignore player comfort and autonomy. It is unacceptable that, even today, women in sport are still fighting to be heard on such basic and personal matters.

Players in Europe have long had the choice of what they wear with no issue. This has allowed for camogie to be an inclusive game for all that is thriving on the continent.

Berlin GAA adds our voice to the growing call for the Camogie Association to not only listen to its players, but to take meaningful action.

There is no game without the players. They deserve respect and a voice in shaping the sport they give so much to.
